The U.S. Coast Guard Band http://www.uscg.mil/band/vacancies.asp • Perform audio related administrative duties (duplicating, maintaining the audio archives and listening station, project work, etc). • Maintain and repair audio equipment. • Participate in recording, mixing, & editing sessions as needed. • Other duties as assigned • Hours are typically 8:30 a.m. 3:00 p.m. (Mon, Tues, Wed, & Fri), with local weekend performances occurring several times per month. The band embarks on 2-week national tours approximately twice a year. • Band personnel are NOT required to undergo Coast Guard Basic Training. • Reports to 1st Engineer • A thorough understanding of recording and sound reinforcement techniques necessary for a classical music environment. • Familiarity with a full array of sound reinforcement and recording equipment. • Must be able to read a Wind Ensemble score. • Proficiency with ProTools software. • Ability to lift, move and set-up audio equipment. • Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and flexibility that allow for quality relations with a variety of constituencies. • Competent in instructing, supervising, and negotiating with others. • Ability to anticipate needs for events, and efficiently handle tasks with minimal direction. • Ability to work both independently as well as a member of a team. • Ability to balance and prioritize a variety of simultaneous projects. • Possess strong troubleshooting skills with attention to detail. • Experience in sound reinforcement, recording, and editing. • Musical training &/or instruments played. • Administrative experience. • Education. • Professional references.
SELECTION PROCESS: barrett.e.seals@uscg.mil All persons entering the Coast Guard Band are enlisted at the pay grade of E-6, as Musician (Petty Officer) First Class. Salary and benefits package includes a starting salary between $45,436 and $50,416; full military benefits, such as free health care, 30 days annual vacation and pension plan. Musicians are not required to undergo the 8-week basic training program; however, they must attend several training classes at the Coast Guard Academy. Initial enlistment is for four years. Maximum age at time of enlistment is 34. Entrance into the Coast Guard Band requires meeting not only the necessary musical standards but also all of the standards required for entrance into the Coast Guard.
