RPG Acoustics

Acoustic design is not the black art it was once thought to be, the province only of experts. Certain basic principles and rules apply to most situations. Good books are available for do-it-yourself'ers. The literature of an informative manufacturer like RPG may tell you all you need to know. So non-experts can get surprisingly good results in many spaces. For other situations, expert designers are available for hire.

Power is much cleaner and quieter than it once was. It is rarely a weak link sonically in a sound reproduction chain. Depending on your application, considerations in your choice may include sound quality (especially in combination with particular speakers), amount of power, protection, reliability, ruggedness, serviceability, etc.

Choosing a mixer or console, especially a large console, can seem dauntingly complex. Usually though, once you have studied the features and benefits of the candidates, and have sorted out the factors that matter most to you, your choice will neatly narrow to one or two models. We have much experience with this process, having sold hundreds of all sizes into all kinds of applications: recording, production, broadcast and post, and sound reinforcement.

Some of our customers like to use outboard converters to bypass those installed in consoles. Others find that, for their purposes, the differences among converters are negligible. Relevant to you or not, converters do sound different, one from another. Their features vary too.

We have created a separate page about choosing and using workstations. Go to buying a DAW?.
It begins as follows:
Workstations are us. We have sold hundreds of them: Digidesign Pro Tools, SADiE, Nuendo, MOTU, Sonic Solutions, Emu/Ensoniq Paris, etc. We are familiar with their uses, their fast-evolving capabilities, and the realities of owning and using them. We are skilled at helping people to choose a suitable one, and to get started using it. We provide system configuration, sales, installation, and training. After-sale, we can advise you how to troubleshoot, and how best to deal with the manufacturer's operational technical support.

This is another product whose sonic characteristics often differ clearly from manufacturer to manufacturer; sometimes from model to model. Buying studio monitors commonly requires listening to them first. Factors for you to consider may include what you need speakers for, the acoustics of your listening space, speaker placement, listening position, ambient noise, the material you work with, your critical listening skills (buy the Golden Ears CD's from us, or take David Moulton's courses if you can), and sometimes even what you like the sound of! Our staff has been a partner in that choosing process hundreds times, so can help you with it, if you'd like. We have demos in our Showroom.
