GENERAL INFORMATION

How to Enroll
Register for courses at any time. Class sizes are limited to twelve, however, and sometimes fewer, so we recommend registering early. You can enroll in any courses you want, as long as you meet the prerequisites. Once the Center has your payment, you can consider yourself enrolled.

by e-mail
Send an e-mail to Info@paudio.com telling the Center what courses you’d like to enroll in. Someone from the Center staff will contact you.

by mail
Send your application with payment or acceptable purchase order* to:
The Parsons Center for Audio Studies
c/o Parsons Audio
192 Worcester Street
Wellesley, MA 02481

by phone
Call the Parsons Audio staff at 781.431.8708, ext.14 or ext.18, Monday - Friday, between 10AM and 6:30PM.

by fax
Fax your Application to 781.431.8783. Include your Mastercard, Visa, or American Express card number and expiration date, or hard copy of an acceptable purchase order*.

in person
Visit the Center (see Directions, below) Monday-Friday, 10AM - 6PM. Bring your credit card, check, money order, or acceptable purchase order*.

confirmation of enrollment
The Center does not send confirmation of enrollment, or reminders of class dates, unless you request them. Once the Center has your payment, you can assume that you are enrolled.

Payment
Full payment is due when you register. You can pay by means of credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or American Express), check, money order, or acceptable purchase order*.

*Purchase orders
Purchase orders are acceptable from organizations that have Net terms with Parsons Audio, or that establish them. Call 781.431.8708.

Waiting list
If a course you want to attend is filled, the Center will notify you and place you on its waiting list without charging your credit card or cashing your check. If openings arise during the last week before a course’s start date, the Center will notify the entire waiting list; the Center will enroll the first respondents.

Gift certificates
Gift certificates for courses, the textbook, training CD’s, and audio equipment (from Parsons Audio) are available. They make excellent gifts or employee benefits.

Course cancellations and changes
The Center reserves the right to cancel any course that does not have minimal enrollment. It will refund tuition and fees in full. The Center also reserves the right to change course scheduling, instructors, location, and content.
If classes are cancelled due to bad weather or other reason, the Center will attempt to contact all students as far in advance as possible. If in doubt whether a class will be held, students may contact the Center or the Instructor directly

Refunds, transfers, withdrawals, credits
The Center will issue a full refund or (if you wish) credit if:
• a course is cancelled for low enrollment;
• the course you want to take is filled. The Center will place you on a waiting list and call if there’s an opening.
• you withdraw from your course at least a week before its start date. Within a week of the start date, you will receive a credit.
No refunds or credits will be given for any rescheduled classes you miss, or once your course starts. Credits are good for one year from date of issue. Please allow two weeks for issuing of refunds.

Graduation certificate
The Center for Audio Studies awards a personalized certificate, signed by the course Instructor, to graduates of its multi-session courses (i.e., excepting Golden Ears). The training provided by the courses is valuable, recognized as such by employers. They have proved worth listing in resumés: they have helped graduates to get jobs!

Access to instructors
Some of the best learning takes place one-on-one, in conversation with the Instructors. The Instructors encourage you to contact them, either in or out of class. The Center seeks a relationship not unlike master/apprentice.

Class locations
Parsons Audio is at 192 Worcester Street, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481. It is located just off Route 9, a half mile west of I-95/Rte. 128, about five minutes from the Mass. Pike. It is easily accessible by car. Parking is available beside and behind the building, and behind the next building up Worcester Street. Detailed directions and a map can be found here on the Parsons Audio web site.

Some classes take place at Moulton Laboratories, in Groton, MA, about fifty minutes' drive northwest of Boston. You'll receive them at a prior class, or you can contact David Moulton or us for them.

Tom Bates' course in Microphones & Mic Techniques typically includes a recording session, often at Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Directions will be handed out beforehand. It’s in Lenox, in the Berkshire hills of Western Massachusetts.

Mass transportation
The nearest T stop is Eliot, in Newton Highlands, on the Green Line’sD (Riverside) line. The nearest commuter rail station is in Wellesley Hills. Both are about two miles away. The local cab service is Veterans Taxi, 617.527.0300.

Supplies & textbooks
Some courses, beginning with Principles of Audio for the Professional, require use of the textbook Total Recording. It's an invaluable reference for any audio professional, 500 pages long, with 300+ illustrations and a CD, so it's good for much more than coursework. Most courses do not require supplies. Any supplies that are required will be described during the course, or sooner.

Student discounts
• free discussion/evaluation of student’s audio system, hardware or software interests, etc., with the experts at Parsons Audio;
Total Recording, David Moulton’s definitive textbook (normally $89) for $75. It is an invaluable reference for courses and your workplace;
• $50 off David Moulton’s Golden Ears CD Series and Platinum Lecture Series.

No smoking is allowed at the Center, but the outdoors is never far away.

FAQ

Can you help me decide which course(s) to take?
Yes. The Center's faculty and staff encourages you to ask about that. They have lots of experience helping people determine the courses that best suit their needs.

Who takes these courses?
Just about anyone whose work or hobby/avocation involves audio. That includes not just engineers and producers, but also musicians, composers, A/V specialists, technicians, audiophiles, etc.

There are many people at my organization who would benefit from taking a course (or courses). Can you accommodate us as a group?
Yes. the Center can enroll you as a group. If there are a dozen of you, or close to it, the Center can schedule a class that is just for you. Also, in such circumstances, the Center can probably hold classes off-site, at your facility, even if it is some distance away from Boston. Recent off-site courses include the Bose Corp. in Framingham and NPR's Marketplace radio show in Los Angeles.
